What is Shukur?

Shukur which means "to thank" is committed to delivering a seamless, positive experience guided by the UAE's program for happiness and financial inclusion, our goal is to become the leading gratuity app in the UAE. Shukur will revolutionise the gratuity ecosystem in the UAE by digitising the cash-based tipping environment, benefiting residents, visitors, migrant workers and businesses alike.

The UAE is renowned for its exceptional service and it is customary to tip. However, with the decrease of cash usage during the pandemic and shortage of small denomination currency, the traditional tipping process has become cumbersome for many. The pandemic has had a profound impact on the global payments sector.  In many of the world’s major economies, cash declined to less than 10 per cent of the total value of face-to-face payments in 2021 according to the 2022 Global Payments report. The UAE largely cash dependent three years ago saw digital payments account for 80 per cent of the total value of payments in the UAE in 2021, up from 33 per cent in 2019!

It's the small and simple things that typically get forgotten when the world digitises, cash tips and that personal moment was one of them - so Shukur is going to restore that personal moment between people with a simple and frictionless solution that moves people forward together.
